England boss Fabio Capello has indicated that Portsmouth right-back Glen Johnson, who has enjoyed a solid season in an attack-minded role from the defensive regions, will be his first choice player in that position.
The Three Lions manager, 62, added that Gary Neville's days in an England shirt may be numbered as he also faces competition from fellow Manchester United player Wes Brown and burgeoning Manchester City ace Micah Richards.
"Glen Johnson is first choice," the Italian tactician is quoted by The News as saying.
"But we don't have that many right-backs in England. Brown is not completely fit, although he will be okay next season."
Richards was brought into a regular first team role by former national boss and current Twente coach Steve McClaren. He began forward motions and created many chances. Despite his impressive start in the international scene, Capello thinks he still has some learning to do.
"Micah Richards is young and not ready for the senior team," he said.
