The defensive duo were rested due to knocks picked up recently, but should join-in with the rest of the squad on Tuesday...According to various reports in the British media, Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole both sat out proceedings as the England squad trained on Monday morning.
It is thought that both players were rested as a precaution. Manchester United centre-back Ferdinand only recently recovered from a calf strain before playing in the Champions League final last Wednesday, while left-back Cole picked up a knock in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Three Lions head coach Fabio Capello is said to be hopeful that the pair will return to training either on Tuesday or later on in the week.
David Beckham, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Joleon Lescott, who all played for their club sides at the weekend, took part in running exercises rather than training with the rest of the squad.
The rest of the squad are said to have trained ahead of Saturday's World Cup qualifying group six game away to Kazakhstan, which will be followed up by the match against Andorra at Wembley next Wednesday.
England are currently top of Group six, five points clear of Croatia having picked up maximum points from their first five fixtures.
