Ancelotti's Chelsea Appointment Held Up By Galli Wrangling - Report

The composition of the Italian's backroom staff at Stamford Bridge is delaying the deal, it seems...

Carlo Ancelotti was set to be named as Chelsea's new manager on Sunday but requested that the announcement be delayed out of respect for his former club, AC Milan, with whom he had spent eight years in charge, after he and the Italian giants parted ways "by mutual consent".

Another factor holding the deal up has been the wrangling about just who will constitute the new manager's coaching staff, according to British broadsheet The Times, who earlier had reported that the Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, had failed to lure Milan star Kaka to Stamford Bridge.

Ancelotti reportedly wants to bring his assistant at Milan, Filippo Galli, to London with him, but The Times understands that the Italian club are unwilling to let their former defender leave, which is delaying the confirmation of Ancelotti's installation at Chelsea.

Milan would like Galli to stay and work with Ancelotti's successor, Leonardo. However, Galli speaks excellent English and Ancelotti is keen for his assistant to accompany him to the Premier League, especially as he spent a year playing at Watford, when the club was managed by Gianluca Vialli.

It is also reported that Ancelotti will be named as manager over the next 24 hours, signing a deal worth £6.5 million a year, and will start work on July 1.
