Two drunken Manchester United fans have been arrested in Rome for allegedly assaulting police officers in a bar in Piazza Campo de Fiori.

According to Il Corriere Dello Sport, the incident happened late on Tuesday night when the owner of a bar called the authorities after the two men began to cause trouble by disturbing other drinkers.

A 19-year-old man and a 45-year-old man allegedly began to kick and punch the police officers dealing with the incident, inflicting various injuries on them.

The pair were arrested. They are accused of resisting arrest and assaulting public officials.

The officers needed hospital treatment, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.

It's not a good sign for the authorities, who had promised a trouble-free final. An alcohol ban is in place, but reports suggest it is not being followed.
