The conclusion of Carlos Tevez's two-year loan spell with Premier League champions Manchester United is edging closer and with little concrete suggestion that the Argentine striker will remain at Old Trafford, speculation has been rife that the hard-working forward will join Liverpool.
Battling midfielder Javier Mascherano, who was initially brought to England along with Tevez to kit out for east London outfit West Ham United, has declared that he would relish a reunion at Anfield.
"It would be great to have Carlos here with me, I know how good he is," Mascherano is quoted by PA Sport as saying.
"But I don't really know what the situation is. It is certainly a difficult one.
"I don't know exactly what is happening.
"The only thing I can say is that he is a great player and a great person."
Any potential move to Liverpool would be a bitter pill for United fans to swallow as they harbour strong emotions toward Tevez.
In 2007, Sir Alex Ferguson blocked Gabriel Heinze's desired move to Liverpool and the defender ended up being sold to Real Madrid.
