Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is convinced he has a future England international on his hands in Kieran Gibbs.

The Frenchman, who has proven to have a knack for assessing the true potential of burgeoning young talent, has been impressed with the manner in which the 19-year-old full-back has deputised in Gael Clichy's absence, and has gone out on a limb by saying that he fully expects Fabio Capello to pick him for England sooner rather than later.

"This year, a player like Kieran Gibbs has been a revelation. I believe he will play for England, and if it happened very quickly, I would not be surprised," Wenger told the club's official website.

"We have discovered a player that at the start of the season, no one expected to see."

Wenger went on to insist he has no doubt Gibbs has the mental strength to put behind him the slip that allowed Ji-Sung Park to score the opening goal during the 3-1 Champions League semi-final loss to Manchester United.

"What happened to him in the second leg of the Manchester United game will not happen to him next year," concluded the Arsenal boss.

Gibbs, who was brought up playing central midfield or wide on the left, made his first-team debut during the League Cup win over Sheffield United last season as a left-back.
