Ashley Cole Wants FA Cup As Chelsea's Leaving Present To Guus Hiddink

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is keen to give interim manager Guus Hiddink a glorious send-off from his time at Stamford Bridge, and help the club beat Everton in the FA Cup final before the Dutchman returns to his duties as coach of the Russian national team.

The Chelsea supporters, those at Stamford Bridge yesterday anyway, treated Hiddink to an emotional series of chants, praising him and imploring him to stay in an outpouring of warmth, and Cole would like to show the coach that the players feel the same way by winning a trophy.

"Everyone wants him to stay," the left-back told the club's official website.

"He has come in and in the months he has been here we have shown a lot of desire and we fight for him.

"Hopefully he will stay but I doubt it, so we are just looking forward to the FA Cup Final now and hopefully we can win him a medal."

The impact made by Hiddink at the club since he was brought in as a temporary replacement for Luiz Felipe Scolari has been clear to all, and Cole, whilst acknowledging that ultimately the buck should stop with the players, confirmed that the atmosphere at the club has been a lot healthier and happier after Hiddink's assumption of the coaching duties.

"It is a little bit different from when [Luiz Felipe] Scolari was here, we lost a few games then and we had our heads down," Cole added.

"But that wasn't down to the manager, at the end of the day we are the players, we're out there, so it is our fault, but Hiddink is here now and we enjoy having him around. Every manager we have had as players, we have loved, but he has come in and changed the way we want to play and how we think and we want to give 100 per cent for him.

"He is one of the lads and that always helps, around the training ground he is always helpful and we enjoy playing for him."

And winning the Cup would provide the perfect way to compensate for the disappointment of the Londoners' exit to Barcelona in the Champions League, Cole explained, concluding, "We are still disappointed we are out of the Champions League, we thought we had a great chance this year, but hopefully we can end the season well. At a club like this we have to win silverware."
