Arsenal Need To Find A Solution – Manuel Almunia

The Gunners' current plight has the Spanish stopper worried...

Arsenal Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia's frustration after conceding to Manchester United
Arsenal goalkeeper, Manuel Almunia, has admitted his club need to change, if they are to claim any silverware next season.

The Gunners were dumped out of the Champions League in midweek by Manchester United, a defeat which means they will finish yet another season empty-handed.

But Almunia has insisted that his side have no excuses and that, despite having a squad full of young players, it is time they were winning trophies.

“The young players are internationals and have been playing for Arsenal for a long time,” he told the Sunday Express.

“They have played many games. They should have the experience now.

“Everybody is concerned by what happened against United. We need to be criticised.

“We need to do some self-analysis because Arsenal is a big club and we are not here to lose.”

The Spanish 'keeper also revealed that he felt the fans had now been forced to wait too long to celebrate a trophy but added that he backed manager Arsene Wenger to get it right.

“Four years without a trophy is a long time. It’s too much for the fans – they deserve something more from us. Every time a team is in a bad situation, you need someone to find a big solution,” he explained.

“I can’t tell you the solution.

“The boss is the one who understands this club the best. He is one of the best coaches in the country.”

Almunia also hinted that his team lacked the vital experience that comes from playing in finals and winning trophies.

“But there are some teams out there who have more power, more strength and a better knowledge and understanding of the big games,” he added.

“Maybe it’s because these teams have more players with experience of playing in major finals and winning things. Maybe that’s the solution.”

Arsenal take on Chelsea today, hoping to bounce back from their midweek disappointment, and Almunia insisted it is was a must-win game for the Gunners.

Speaking ahead of the game at the Emirates, he said, “We have to win. Losing to United was the biggest disappointment of the season.”
