Steve Harper Calls On Newcastle Fans To Act As 12th Man
The Geordie keeper is all too aware that his suffering club literally need all the help they can get at this point...
Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper has called on the club's famously passionate fans to roar them to safety.
The third-to-last-placed Magpies are in very grave danger of having their Premier League wings clipped and interim manager Alan Shearer has already gone on record as saying that they need to win all three of their remaining home games to ensure their survival.
"We need the fans more than ever during these three home games," Harper said ahead of the big one against Portsmouth tonight.
"They can be our 12th man. We need 52,000 Geordies screaming us on because the situation is a difficult one.
"I would quite happily take an 8-7 win!," he continued on the club's official website. "We just need three points. The gap is four points at the moment and that's too many.
"We've got to narrow that gap. We keep saying if we get that win the teams above us will be looking over their shoulders but we've got to do ourselves a favour starting on Monday night.
"It's a must, must-win. We've got three massive home games and we're going to need every ounce of support."
According to nufc.co.uk, 50,000 black-and-white cards, 20,000 flags and 1,000 scarves before kick-off in a bid to further stoke the atmosphere for a game which is of monumental importance for the club.
