Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has identified Frank Lampard as Chelsea’s main danger man, as the clubs prepare to go head-to-head in the Champions League.
The Primera Division side welcome Guus Hiddink’s men to the Camp Nou on Tuesday night with Messi admitting Barcelona will need to be at their very best if they are to oust the Blues.
“Even though confidence is high, we are aware of Chelsea's great record in Europe and we are going to need to be playing our very best in the two games to progress,” he told the News of the World.
“I believe Chelsea will provide the biggest test we have had so far this year in the European Cup, and we are ready for that test.”
The Argentinean is clearly expecting a tough game on Tuesday night and he pin-pointed Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as the man his side must watch out for.
“We know they have a great squad that contains some of the best players in Europe, but I particularly admire Frank Lampard,” he explained.
“To have a midfield player who consistently scores so many goals at the top level is a rare thing. It is something we need to look out for in the two matches. For sure, Frank is a big threat.”
Messi also paid tribute to Lampard’s work-rate in midfield and insisted he is one of the best players in the world in his position.
“He can score great goals but he also makes them and puts in a lot of work in midfield as well,” he added.
“He is one of the best central midfield players in the world, for sure. With the quality of our midfield, I am sure it will be a great battle full of great players for the fans to watch.”
The Barcelona attacker also picked out Didier Drogba as another threat for the Blues but insisted the Catalan outfit could handle the Premier League side.
“We know Drogba is a very strong and clever player and it will be very hard work for our defenders to keep him quiet,” he said.
“But players like Carles Puyol know about playing against the best in the world and they will be ready for the challenge.”
