Arsene Wenger: Arsenal Ace Tomas Rosicky To Return Next Season

The French tactician has confirmed that the Czech Republic international will not play until the 2009-10 season, while he hopes to beat Chelsea to a third place Premier League finish...

Arsene Wenger watches from the touchline as his Arsenal side claim a narrow win over Dynamo Kyiv.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Tomas Rosicky will not return to first-team action until the 2009-10 campaign.

The midfielder's representative announced on Friday that it is highly unlikely that the 28-year-old, who has been sidelined with a hamstring tendon problem since January 2008, will play before the end of this season.

Wenger has confirmed that the Czech Republic international will not be risked during the Gunners' remaining seven games, however, he is backing the former Borussia Dortmund star to make an impact at the Emirates Stadium next year.

"Tomas’ season is over. I had a secret hope he would come back but since he had a second setback at the beginning of April, I thought that’s too much," Wenger is quoted as saying by The Sun.

"It’s not a serious setback. He will come back. He has the strength."

Meanwhile, the French tactician has set his sights on overhauling London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League table to claim a third place finish.

The Blues are currently six points ahead of Arsenal with five games remaining but the 59-year-old wants his side to reduce that gap as he believes it could make all the difference to their 2009-10 Champions League campaign.

"If we finish fourth it will be much harder for us in the Champions League next season," Wenger explained.

"So we must focus on finishing third because that is a guaranteed Champions League place."
