Liverpool Star Fernando Torres Downplays Wonder Goal Against Blackburn
The Reds' Spanish sensation was decidedly low key about his opening goal against the Rovers which was straight out of the top drawer...
Liverpool superstar Fernando Torres had a rather understated reaction to his sensational strike against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, which was a sure-fire contender for goal of the season.
The hyper-talented Spaniard contributed to his side's 4-0 romp over Rovers with two goals, but the first after just five minutes was one that nobody in the stadium will ever forget.
Torres ran onto a chip over the top of the Blackburn back-line by Jamie Carragher and unleashed a sumptuous volley across his own body and into the far top corner while under pressure and facing away from goal just inside the 18-yard box.
"Sometimes you try to score like this, but normally the ball goes out, but this one went in. It was a good goal," said Torres to Sky Sports with a wry smile after the game.
"It was a great result coming after the game against Chelsea. The last game wasn't good, but we've done our job," he added, before turning his attention to the task of turning around a 3-1 loss in the first-leg at home to Chelsea last week.
"We have confidence after this result to go to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday," he boomed.
