Former Liverpool Manager Gerard Houllier Believes David N'Gog Can Come Good

The former Lyon boss has offered words of hope for the fledgling career of young N'gog.

Liverpool's David Ngog celebrates his opener against Sunderland at Anfield

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier, who masterminded a cup treble in 2001 with the Reds, believes that current gaffer Rafael Benitez has a hot talent in the form of forward David N'gog.

After signing for €2 million (£1.8m) last summer from Ligue 1 outfit Paris St-Germain, N'gog has only featured intermittently during his rookie season at Anfield.

Houllier, though, is pleased with his countryman’s progression and believes it bodes well for both Liverpool and France.

Speaking to Setanta, Houllier said, "He is so young - 20 years of age - and plays for the Under-21s. I think that we always tend to be impatient with young players.

“We have to wait. Besides, he is part of a great club where he will learn a lot. When you train and play with world-class players, obviously you naturally improve.”

N'gog recently represented the French U-21 side during a 2-0 victory over their English counterparts.

Houllier continued, "First of all I would use Bill Shankly’s words by saying, ‘At least, he put himself in the position to score goals.’

"As far as I am concerned I think that he played extremely well for the team thanks to his movement, control, passes and flicks.

"Two or three times he showed brilliant movement and it is a shame that he did not score - he was unlucky.”
