Iconic midfielder David Beckham made a second-half appearance during England's 4-0 romp over Slovakia to ensure that he broke World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore's record number of appearances for an outfield player.
Beckham has now accumulated 109 international caps, and is just 16 appearances shy of equalling Peter Shilton's outright haul of 125.
Speaking to The Sun, Beckham has said that he was told by Moore's wife Stephanie that the late, great, defender would have been proud of the record-breaking 33-year-old.
"I got a note from Stephanie Moore after my 108th cap saying congratulations and that Bobby would have been so proud," he said.
"That was an unbelievable moment, but to get to 109 is great and to do it at Wembley means so much," he added.
Beckham then went on to mention that he was asked to be photographed with a commemorate England shirt that bore the number 109 on the back; an act that he refused to take part in.
"I was asked to do the picture but I did that for 100," he said. "And though it’s a big thing for me I don’t want to focus too much on that because the performance of the team is more important.
"Of course I’m proud for myself and for my family but it’s more important that England beat Slovakia and now we move on to the Ukraine game," he concluded.
