West Bromwich Albion striker Roman Bednar has backed his captain's plea for more spirit to be shown by the team, as they prepare for the biggest match of their season.

The Baggies face fellow relegation rivals Stoke City on April 4, and the game is a must win for Tony Mowbray's men.

Baggies captain Paul Robinson criticised his side's lack of character recently and Bednar has said he agrees with him, believing the team need a lift.

Speaking to Express and Star, Bednar said, "I agree with Robbo absolutely. Nobody has spoken about his comments in the dressing room, but I think that’s because we don’t need to because people know he’s right.

"Some players would not get away with big words, but Robbo can say these things because he has the right attitude and shows it every day.

"Ever since I first came to the club I have been impressed by Robbo, because he is the one who puts in 100 per cent every day and whatever is happening.

"Robbo can say whatever he wants about attitude and nobody can question him because he works at his maximum every day and in every match. I agree with everything he said."

The Czech Republic international also stated that he felt the team are good enough to be able to avoid relegation this season.

"If people don’t believe that we can stay in the league, then they shouldn’t be on the pitch,” added Bednar.

"Nobody can give up because we still have eight matches to play and they are all games that we can win."

The 26-year-old moved to The Hawthornes last year and has since played 23 Premier League games for the club, scoring six times.
