Fabrice Muamba Eager To Impress For Bolton Wanderers
The England Under-21 international was pleased to be back in action for the Trotters after a long spell waiting in the wings...
Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba was handed an opportunity to make a long-awaited return to first-team action after an injury ruled midfielder Mark Davies out for the trip to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Wanderers came away from the Black Country with a useful point from a 1-1 draw, and the Congolese-born midfielder was pleased to be back in the front-line once again.
"It was good to get out there and play," the former Birmingham City man told The Bolton News.
"I think I put in a decent shift for the team, so hopefully I have proved to the manager that I am worth a place in the team.
"It was unfortunate that Mark got an injury against Fulham but these things happen in football – all I can do is grab my opportunity, and I think I did that."
Wanderers were denied all three points by a late own goal at The Hawthorns on Saturday, but Muamba, although disappointed that the Trotters couldn't ease their relegation worries a little more by claiming all three points, felt that a point away from home was a useful return to take back to Lancashire.
"You could say we were disappointed but we knew what a massive game it was for them, so it was always going to be difficult," he added.
"Anything we take from games between now and the end of the season has got to be a positive. We didn’t lose the game, got a point, and that’s what really matters.
"It was one of those days where whoever got the second goal would win the game. It didn’t come for us, but I thought we played well and deserved three points."
