Guus Hiddink Ponders Extension To Temporary Chelsea Tenure
The temporary Chelsea manager has revealed that players and staff at the club have planted seeds of contemplation in his mind over an extension to his Stamford Bridge stay...
Since Guus Hiddink arrived at Chelsea on February 11, following the departure of the ineffectual Luiz Felipe Scolari, the 62-year-old has oft maintained that the appointment was to be only a temporary measure, frequently affirming his desire to honour his commitments to the Russian national football team.
However, the form of the Blues under the tutelage of the experienced journeyman manager has been exemplary.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are yet to taste a defeat since Hiddink has commanded the touchline and have mounted an outside shot at the Premier League crown together with securing progression to the latter rounds of the Champions League and the FA Cup.
It is success such as this that has prompted numerous members of staff at the club to plant seeds of contemplation into the mind of Hiddink.
Hiddink explained in This Is London, "I will focus on Russia after this project but people say, 'Think about it, stay.' I enjoy it with the Russians but I do have a clause that says we can stop in November if Russia don't qualify [for the World Cup].
"Then, the Russian FA can choose another direction and I would also be free to go.”
Elsewhere, there may be increasing talk about Manchester United's chances of a quintuple, however, powerful Ivorian international Didier Drogba is harbouring ambitions of his own. He is targeting a treble scoop of the competitions that Chelsea are left to compete in. It is a viewpoint shared by Hiddink.
The Blues make the short trip to north London to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in the league.
