Roman Bednar Aims For Goalscoring Return Against West Ham United
The Czech Republic striker is almost fit again and determined to help the Baggies avoid relegation...
West Bromwich Albion striker Roman Bednar has vowed to return to the first team from injury in goalscoring form, in a bid to stave off the threat of relegation that hangs around the Hawthornes.
The Czech Republic international suffered an injured back after a nasty fall in the club's training camp in Spain recently, and although he is not fully fit, he is eager to make the Premier League clash against West Ham United, in nine days time, his comeback date.
Describing the injury, Bednar told the club's official website, "I landed heavily from a great height on the base of my back.
"The pitch was hard but at the time it just felt a bit sore and I carried on training.
"But a couple of days later it started to swell up and get really painful and I wasn't able to train.
"It died down and I was due to be in the squad for last Saturday's game at Everton.
"But the day before I got a knock in a collision on the training ground and it swelled up to the size of a tennis ball.
"The swelling didn't die down in time for Tuesday's Arsenal game but I have been back in training for the last couple of days.
"I'm still having to take things easy and make sure I don't get another blow on my back.
"But unless it gets caught again, I should be fine and available for the team against West Ham."
The 25-year-old Czech striker moved to the Hawthornes last year, following a successful loan spell from Scottish Premier League side Hearts of Midlothian. He has since made 23 Premier League starts for the Baggies, scoring six times in the process.
