The news that Ashley Cole spent three hours under police detention due to drunken exploits following a charity evening will rock Chelsea at a time when things had just started picking up for the club - with four straight wins out of four under new interim manager Guus Hiddink.

The English left-back was gaoled following a drunken rant aimed at police; officers asked Cole, 28, to tone down his language, but the £82,000 per week star refused, and consequently spent the next three hours in gaol, according to a report in today's Daily Mail.

He was later fined a fixed penalty notice of £80 as a result of his drunk and disorderly behaviour, on an evening that was supposed to be all about charity at a Chelsea Football Club dinner.

This will no doubt test Guus Hiddink's man-management skills, as well as giving an insight into his favoured disciplinary measures.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are yet to make an official comment.

Chelsea had been displaying decent form in recent times, and under Hiddink the club are yet to taste a draw, let alone a defeat.

Meanwhile, the club will be preparing for a trip to Coventry for their FA Cup sixth round clash on Saturday, before travelling to Turin to take on Juventus in the concluding leg of their knock-out Champions League tie.
