Arsenal Land French Prospect
Arsenal have signed one for the future in the form of 17-year-old French midfielder Francis Coquelin.
According to French press reports, the France U-17 international underwent a medical in London on Tuesday before putting pen-to-paper on a long-term deal with Arsenal.
Coquelin is something of an unknown quantity even in his native France, as he previously played for Ligue 2 side Stade Lavallois MFC. Needless to say, he made a lasting impression on Arsene Wenger during a recent trial with the London club.
Laval have yet to confirm the reports but they did acknowledge that Coquelin will no longer be at the club next season and that they will not be receiving a fee for him.
“We are hearing here and there different destinations for different transfer fees," read a press statement from the club.
“The truth of the moment it that Francis Coquelin is free.
“Nothing more links him with MFC, as a consequence his future club have no obligation to pay an education fee.”
