The striker is yet to play a single minute for Tottenham this season, but is in line to return in some capacity against his former club at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday

Andre Villas-Boas has suggested Emmanuel Adebayor is back in the frame to feature for Tottenham against Manchester City on Sunday.

The striker has been far removed from the Spurs first team squad so far this season and had previously been in training with the youth set-up, with Roberto Soldado and Jermain Defoe competing for a lone forward's role.

But Villas-Boas indicated he is open to the possibility of starting Adebayor against his former club at the Etihad Stadium.

"Our likely approach is to go with one up front," he told reporters. "It’s a decision that I have to take. They are very near each other at the moment, and it could be a possibility that even Adebayor could play that game.

"We don’t have enough reasons at the moment not to trust Soldado and Defoe because they’ve been excellent, with great performances, goals and great goal tallies, so hopefully it’s a decision that’s best for the team and best for the strategy."

The Spurs boss indicated he has no concerns regarding Adebayor's level of performance, despite his recent exile from the first team.

"We have two performing strikers at the moment in Soldado and Defoe,” Villas-Boas said. "Obviously Adebayor hasn’t had the chance to get back into the team yet. I am sure that whenever that happens he will perform as well as the other ones. The three of them are competing extremely well in training."
