Jacques Anouma launches bid for Caf presidency
The former Cote D’Ivoire football federation president has made official his intention to vie for the presidency of the African football governing body
Cote D’Ivoire's Football Federation (FIF) on Tuesday announced its former president Jacques Anouma would be running for the president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), which is set for March 2013 during the body’s general assembly in Morocco.
The 58-year-old member of Fifa and Caf executive committees last week sought for the support of the FIF and the Ivorian sports ministry, in line with Caf’s regulations.
“The president of Cote D’Ivoire Football Federation (FIF) Mr Augustine Sidy Diallo has the pleasure to inform club presidents, interest groups, the national and international community that Mr Jacques Anouma has officially informed the body of his intention to vie for the post of Caf president next March,” a statement from the Fif said.
“The FIF will table the matter before its executive committee and the sports ministry. The FIF will also like to thank Anouma for his vision and for coming to seek the support of his football federation of origin,” it added.
Incumbent president Issa Hayatou, who has been ruling the body since 1988, will likely run for a reelection after setting up a pre-campaign team last March, composed of Almamy Kabele Camara, a member of Caf’s executive committee, Senegal’s Badra Sene and embattled Benin Football Federation president Anjorin Moucharafou.
