Senegal league play-offs suspended

The remaining games of the Senegalese domestic league have been suspended due to a security and financial crisis between referees and the football federation

The Ligue Senegalaise de Football Professionnel, which organises and controls Senegal’s football leagues, has decided to suspend the play-offs left to conclude the season after the committee of local referees announced its officials stated its intention of boycotting all games for security and financial reasons.

The referees’ body said its members had been physically assaulted during matches and that the Senegal FA was yet to pay up arrears worth €69,000.

A linesman was injured after being hit by a missile thrown by a fan during Casa Sport versus Diambars last weekend clash, which led to the suspension of the encounter.

With just three more play-offs left to the close of the season, title holders US Ouakam’s chances of succeeding themselves are wearing away after being handed a 3-0 drubbing by Niary Tally, losing to Diambars 1-0 and drawing goalless against Casa Sports to record just one point from three games.
