Samuel Eto’o returns to Cameroon national team in August
The former Indomitable Lions captain will be reintegrated in August at the end of his eight-month suspension imposed by the football federation in December
Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o will make a comeback to the team in September during the second round of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, according to reports in the country.
The four-time African Player of the Year was handed a 15-match ban in December 2011, which was later slashed to an eight-month absence, for allegedly instigating a match bonus row that led to the Indomitable Lions’ boycott of an international friendly against Algeria in November 2011.
The Cameroon football federation (Fecafoot) was made to pay the Algeria FA €400,000 in damages following the botched meeting.
Cameroon coach Denis Lavagne had declared that Eto’o’s absence could reveal another hidden talent, but the team struggled to qualify to the second round of the 2013 Afcon and lost their last 2014 World Cup qualifier 2-1 against Libya, dropping the team from the summit of Group I to third place.
There have been insistent calls within the central African country for the return of the Anzhi Makhachkala striker, who is regarded as a national hero.
Suspended alongside Eto’o, former vice-captain Enoh Eyong of Ajax returned to the outfit last month.
