Guinea coach Michel Dussuyer owed six-month salary arrears

The Syli National coach says he has not been paid since January this year despite his presence at the 2012 Afcon, with the FA rejecting responsibility for the situation

Guinea coach Michel Dussuyer held a press conference on Thursday in Conakry to denounce the non-payment of his six-month salary arrears by the football federation and the government, even after leading the team to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

He said he was confused with the situation and that nobody was giving him hope to continue the job.

“We’ve been on this for six months and nobody tells me why my pay is not coming,” the Frenchman said. “I hear the finance minister has not endorsed my new contract and nobody tells me why.”

“However, I will continue my work. I wouldn’t want my salary situation to aggravate the already terrible atmosphere within the group,” he said.

Guinea were stunned at home 3-2 by Egypt during the 2014 World Cup qualifying second round, sparking nationwide criticisms.

The players say they have been living and working under awful conditions which have affected their form.

In response to coach Dussyer, the football federation said on Friday it was not responsible for the situation.

“The Guinean football federation was not aware that coach Dussuyer has not been paid since the last six months. It came to the body’s notice through the media a day ago. However, the FA is not responsible for such issues. The ministries of finance and sports handle such matters,” the Guinea football federation said in a statement.

The 53-year-old former Benin coach has been at the helm of the Syli National since 2010, extending his contract until 2014 upon his return from the 2012 Afcon.
