Egyptian clubs to play continental matches behind closed doors
The EFA have confirmed receiving a green light from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces for Egyptian clubs to host continental matches in Cairo without fans attending
Egyptian Football Association’s (EFA) spokesman Azmi Moujahed confirmed on Thursday that the head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, has agreed to allow Al Ahly and ENPPI to host continental matches in Cairo.
According to Goal.com’s Egyptian edition, the decision requires that Al Ahly’s April 8 Caf Champions League fixture against Ethiopian Coffee and ENPPI’s April 7 Confederation Cup game against Burundi’s Academic be played behind closed doors at the Military Academy stadium.
In a television interview, Moujahed added that the fan ban remained in effect due to continuing security concerns and reminded viewers that the Interior Ministry had previously refused that matches be held in Cairo altogether.
