The Red Sea players failed to return home with other team members after the conclusion of the Cecafa Kagame Cup in Tanzania on Sunday
The fate of the 13 Red Sea players from Eritrea who are seeking asylum in Tanzania will be told of the outcome next week by the country’s National Eligibility Committee (NEC).
The Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Isaac Nantanga told the Daily News that the players underwent interviews with the refugees department at the ministry and the report has already been compiled.
“The report will be submitted to the Minister of Home Affairs and later to the National Eligible Committee to determine whether the players are eligible to be granted with asylum status in Tanzania or otherwise,” he said.
The players, who took part in the Kagame Castle Cup which ended on Sunday, were scheduled to leave Dar es Salaam for home on Saturday, July 9, aboard Kenya Airways. However, the players did not show up at the airport for departure.
