The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has praised the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for hosting a successful Kagame Cup championship, which ended on Sunday, and promised to join the federation in lobbying for rights to host the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament in Tanzania.
Cecafa Secretary General, Nicolas Musonye, told Daily News that there is a possibility for the tournament to take place in the country because there is strong passion for football among the fans.
Musonye said in contrast to other countries in the east African region, Tanzanian fans are passionate and attend matches in large numbers to support to their teams, as well as visiting sides.
"I have learnt a lot of things in this year's tournament particularly in fanaticism and the way the Tanzanian government has participated in the organisation of the event," said Musonye.
Musonye also said the Kagame Cup has not been taking place in other countries outside Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda because it has always been easy to organise the event in any of the four countries.
