Tanzanian coach accuses Nigeria of fielding over age players for Olympic qualifiers
The Nigeria Dream Team V netted three goals at home to sail through to the next round of qualifying thanks to a 3-1 aggregate
Tanzania’s U23 team coach Jamhuri Kihwelo has accused Nigeria of fielding over-age players when the two teams met for the second leg fixture of the London 2012 Olympic qualifiers in Benin City on Sunday.
Tanzania's Vijana Stars had won the first leg 1-0 two weeks ago in Dar es Salaam, but were overpowered by Nigeria 3-0 in a match that was shifted by 24 hours due to heavy rain.
But the Stars tactician told a post-match conference that the Nigerian team fielded over-age players for the encounter, which gave them the edge throughout the clash.
“They paraded an over-age team against my team and we will protest that. It was unfortunate that we lost. They were not better than my team,” he was quoted as saying by Complete Sports.
“The Senegalese referee never gave us a chance during the game and the officiating was bad in the second half as he changed completely. He was biased 100 per cent and nobody can deny that fact.”
The countries that will play the final eight alongside the Nigerians in a yet to be decided country in December are Morocco, Algeria, Cote D'Ivoire, Senegal, Egypt, South Africa and Gabon.
Nigeria won the Olympic gold in 1996 and were silver medalists at Beijing 2008.
