The Gabon-Cameroon friendly slated for Tuesday in France has been cancelled…
The Gabon-Cameroon international friendly scheduled to hold at the Marville de La Courneuve Stadium in Paris, France, on Tuesday March 29 has been cancelled, Camfoot.com said Monday.
No reasons were officially given for the cancellation but a source at the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), who asked not to be mentioned for having no permission to speak on the matter, told Goal.com that the decision came from the Cameroonian side due to the bitter loss of the Indomitable Lions on Saturday in Dakar, where they were downed 1-0 by Senegal, putting the Central Africans’ 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in serious doubt.
But local observers say Cameroon’s withdrawal from the Gabon friendly was another strategy not to aggravate the frustration of fans, because another loss to Gabon, in less than four days after Senegal’s would be difficult to manage back home.
The Fecafoot media officer Mr Binyam confirmed the cancellation of the friendly to Goal.com but said he was not in position to give reasons.
Gabon shocked Cameroon 1-0 in their 2010 African Cup of Nations opener, a setback the Cameroonians are yet to outlive.
Goal.com’s efforts to reach officials of the Gabon FA proved fruitless.
