Zambian Coach Unveils Squad For AFCON Qualifier Against Mozambique
The team will train for five days in South Africa before leaving for Maputo, Mozambique.
Zambian national team head coach Dario Bonetti has unveiled the squad that will face Mozambique in the crucial 2012 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier that is set for the weekend of March 26/27 in Maputo. The tactician drafted into his squad TP Mazembe lethal striker Given Singuluma and also recalled Golden Arrows striker Collins Mbesuma and Clifford Mulenga from Bloemfontein Celtics, who both impressed the coach during the international friendly against Swaziland.
Zambian Football Association communications manager Erick Mwanza told Times of Zambia that the team that will regroup in South Africa on March 20 will also include Venacious Mapande (Al Moqaweloon Al Arab, Egypt), Fwayo Tembo (FC Basel), Jimmy Mulilo (Red Arrows), Rodger Kola (AS Ashod, Israel) and Chisamba Lungu who will train with the senior team but have been selected for the U23’s.
Mwanza said the five players will feature for the U-23 side but should an injury occur to any member of the senior team, then they can be called upon as reinforcements.
The under 23 team will be playing Rwanda in a 2012 London Games qualifier at Nkoloma Stadium, the same weekend as the senior team will be in Mozambique.
The composition of the senior team is as follows: Kennedy Mweene (Free State Stars), Jacob Banda (Zesco United) and Kalililo Kakonje (TP Mazembe), Francis Kasonde (Al Hazm, KSA), Nyambe Mulenga (Zesco), Stoppilla Sunzu (TP Mazembe), Chintu Kampamba (Bidvest Wits) and Hichani Himoonde (TP Mazembe), Joseph Musonda (Golden Arrows), Emmanuel Mbola (TP Mazembe), Dennis Banda (Green Buffaloes), Rainford Kalaba (TP Mazembe), Noah Chivuta (Free State Stars) and Isaac Chansa (Orlando Pirates), William Njovu (Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona, Israel), Thomas Nyirenda (Zanaco), Christopher Katongo (Skoda Xanthi, Greece), Felix Katongo (Al Ittihad, Libya), Mulenga, Mbesuma, James Chamanga (Dalian Shide, China), Singuluma and Emmanuel Mayuka (Young Boys, Switzerland).
