Morocco caretaker coach Dominique Cuperly has told Le Matin that although he takes complete responsibility for the Atlas Lions’ home draw against the Central African Republic, the Moroccan public must remain positive and support their national team throughout the rest of the qualifiers.

“We need to look towards the future in a positive manner. I completely assume responsibility for the result against the Central African Republic and the choices that were made. I read what the press wrote and they have a right to judge us but they have to have of insight as to the current situation,” he explained.

“We need to be given time to construct a competitive team in the medium term while continuing to take care of the short term because we have already begun 2012 AFCON qualifiers. A team isn’t built in one day, especially one that hasn’t played together for many months.”

Cuperly added that Morocco had some valuable players who they could build around but that he and his technical staff still had to strengthen the side with other elements, such as Mehdi Carcela, who have expressed their desire to represent the Atlas Lions.

“We’ve spoken to him and the player said he wanted to play for Morocco. Now we have to get the administrative process under way so that he can come as soon as possible,” said the man who is still waiting for the arrival of Eric Gerets.
