Nigeria FA Elections Annulled

Nigeria risk FIFA ban...

A Nigeria High Court has nullified the recent elections into the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja.

The court also ordered that the most senior official in the federation take over the administration of the Glass House pending the determination of the substantive suit.

Twenty eight persons, including past and present sports ministry officials have been directed to appear in court on September 24 to face charges of contempt.

The controversial elections, which brought in Aminu Maigari and a new board, were held in disobedience of some court orders, with the electoral committee stating that they were never served any court injunction.

However, former NFF board member Obinna Ogba admitted over the weekend that the committee did receive at least one court order, but chose to ignore it.

Meanwhile, FIFA in its statutes states that "recourse to ordinary courts of law is prohibited unless specifically provided for in the FIFA regulations," just as "FIFA recognises the Independent Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) with headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland) to resolve disputes between FIFA, Members, Confederations, Leagues, clubs, Players, Officials and licensed match agents and players’ agents.”

Therefore these government interferences might attract FIFA sanctions on Nigerian football.
