Gabon 1-1 Burkina Faso: Honours Even In Cannes Friendly
Both national teams faced off in France over the weekend…
By Kingsley Kobo
While the rest of the continent focused on the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches over the weekend, Gabon and Burkina Faso, both exempted from the weekend’s games, played a warm-up friendly at the Maurice Chevalier Stadium in Cannes, France.
Roger Issakounia scored for the Black Panthers in the 52nd minute with The Stallions levelling matters minutes before the final whistle via a penalty kick scored by Alain Traore.
Burkina Faso had been scheduled to play Mauritania in the AFCON qualifiers in Group F, but were exempted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the withdrawal of Mauritania from the 2012 AFCON race.
Gabon are qualified automatically being a co-host nation with Equatorial Guinea.
