Taifa Stars coach Jan Poulsen has dropped ace striker Jerson Tegete among other stars ahead of their African Nations Cup qualifier against Algeria.
The Young Africans goal-poacher, who has been regular in national team since 2007, was among seven players dropped by the Danish tactician.
The others include midfielders Abdulhalim Humoud and Athumani Idd, defenders Juma Jabu and Kelvin Yondan, attacking midfielder Uhuru Selemani and injured Simba custodian Juma Kaseja.
"It is my duty to select what I believe is the best team. It was very difficult decision to tell them that they were not going this morning," Poulsen was quoted as saying in Daily News.
Foreign-based stars Henry Joseph (Kongsivinger Il, Norway), Nizar Khalfan (Vancouver White Caps, Canada) and Danny Mrwanda (Vietnam), will be part of team that leaves for Algeria tomorrow.
Mtibwa Sugar midfielder Shaaban Nditi also returns to the team after missing out in the initial squad.
Other players who succeeded to make a cut in Poulsen's 20-man squad are Shadrack Nsajigwa (Yanga), Salum Kanoni (Simba), Aggrey Morris (Azam FC), Erasto Nyoni (Azam FC), Nadir Haroub (Yanga), Stephano Mwasika (Yanga) and Idrisa Rajabu who plays for Kenyan champions Sofapaka.
Also in the squad are midfielders Jabir Aziz (Azam FC), Nurdin Bakari (Yanga), Abdi Kassim (Yanga), Seleman Kassim (Azam FC). Strikers are Mrisho Khalfan Ngassa (Azam), Mussa Hassan Mgosi (Simba) and John Bocco (Azam FC).
Poulsen said the match would be tough for his side but promised that they will get a good result.
"We know that we're going to play tough opponents, we know they played in the World Cup and have many professional players in Europe, but I hope we'll be able to give them a strong test."
"So far we've had a very good camp. We have worked to improve our performance from the game against Kenya. Hopefully we will put on an improved performance against Algeria.”
