Cameroon's football federation (FECAFOOT) are vigorously courting two European-born players of Cameroonian descent – Liverpool forward David N'Gog and Karlsruher FC defender Marvin Matip.
According to FECAFOOT vice-president Francis Mveng, the federation has done everything necessary to get the French-born N’Gog on board, but that the final decision rests with player himself.
“The ball is in his court. We have shown interest in him and expect him to react as soon as possible,” Mveng told reporters recently in Douala.
To intensify their chase, the FECAFOOT have called upon former football star Roger Milla, to personally meet with N'Gog to continue the persuasion.
“Every player of Cameroonian origin wants to play with the Lions. It is left for us at FECAFOOT to go out there and get them convinced,” Milla said. “Now that France are looking for a real attacker, we’ve got to go get David N'Gog as quickly as possible because they can beat us to it.”
Cameroon are also interested in Marvin Matip, whose younger brother Joel Matip joined the Lions before the 2010 World Cup. Both brothers have played for German junior teams, but are still eligible to play for Cameroon’s senior team.
“Matip has already been issued a Cameroonian passport. We are now sorting out final arrangements with FIFA to see him join the Lions as soon as possible,” said Mveng.
