RC Lens Midfielder Razak Boukari To Play For Togo - Report
Boukari chooses the Sparrow Hawks of Togo over France...
By Kingsley Kobo
Abdoulrazak Razak Boukari is a Togolese-born French footballer who plays for Ligue 1 side RC Lens.
The 23-year-old midfielder holds both French and Togolese citizenship and had previously pledged allegiance to France, playing for the U-21 squad in 2006. But last July, the young man was overwhelmed by his nostalgia for his fatherland by announcing to the press that he had opted to play for Togo’s senior team.
Recently France Football reported that Boukari had been enlisted in Togo’s squad and may likely be part of the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers campaign, and could even play in the friendly against Saudi Arabia in Riyadh slated for August 11.
After a brief suspension from the African Cup of Nations competitions by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following their withdrawal from the 2010 tournament in Angola after a deadly ambush attack on their bus, Togo got the clemency of CAF in mid-May 2010, and can now participate in all its tournaments.
