Glo-CAF Awards 2009 Set To Commence Tonight In Ghana

The highlight of the event is the crowning of the Best African Footballer for 2009. Three top African players – Samuel Eto’o of Inter, Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and Michael Essien – have been shortlisted to replace title holder Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo.
Goal.com can confirm that the stage is set for the long-awaited event that kicks-off at 6.30pm GMT.
“We are on course and will put up an event that will meet up the expectations of the guests. Africa should expect a great show as we seek to celebrate African football,” said Bobby Scott, Chief Executive of True Colours Events, the organising firm for the awards.
Personalities ranging from active footballers, ex-players, administrators and coaches from all walks of life are in Ghana to witness and add colour to the coronation of the best footballer on the continent.
CAF President, Issa Hayatou touched down at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Tuesday night in the company of Mustapha Fahmy, General Secretary and some members of the CAF Executive Committee.
Ghana legend Abedi Pele, Anthony Baffoe, Anthony Yeboah, Abdul Karim Razak, Ibrahim Sunday among others constitute the local legion expected to grace the event.
Also, expected are former Nigeria captain Stephen Keshi, Senegalese legend, Jules Bocande, Oswaldo Saturnino Oliveira 'Jesus' of Angola and Algerian football hero, Ali Fergani.
Ex-France international and World Cup winner, Christian Karembeu will also be around and a host of others including Sellas Tetteh, coach of the Ghana side that clinched gold at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt last year as well as John Obuh of the Nigeria U-17 team.
AC Milan's new recruit, Dominic Adiyiah of the Ghana’s Black Satellites is gunning for the Young Player of the Year award alongside South African Kermit Erasmus and Nigerian Emmanuel Sani.
This is the second time in three years that the annual event is being staged in Accra.
