Algeria’s Faouzi Chaouchi Expresses Relief Regarding CAF Ruling
The ES Setif goalkeeper says that he has his FA president to thank for escaping with a relatively soft three match suspension after his on field outburst in Angola.

Algerian international backup goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi has told Al Heddaf that he is very much relieved that his on field outburst against Coffi Codjia in his team’s 4-0 semi final loss to Egypt in Angola has only cost him a three match suspension thanks to the intervention of FAF President Mohamed Raouraoua.
“The suspension isn’t that severe I think. I was scared that Coffi Codjia would write up a report that incriminates me more but the President of the FAF reassured me that he was going to follow the case very closely so that extenuating circumstances are taken into account,” he said.
Chaouchi admitted that he was pleasantly surprised when he heard the news last Friday and conceded that he expected his suspension to be longer. However, above all, he was thrilled that the suspension only covers CAF competitions and not FIFA ones, meaning that he can potentially participate in this summer’s World Cup should Rabah Saadane give him a recall. In fact, according to him, it’s essentially only a two match ban.
“The suspension will only apply to qualifiers for the next African Cup of Nations. Thus, I’ll be absent against Tanzania and the Central African Republic since I observed one game of suspension during our third place match against Nigeria in Angola,” he explained.
The player also took the opportunity to thank Algerian football fans who have supported him through what has been a difficult period for him and has promised that he would act like a true professional from here on out in order to not put himself and his team in the same position in the future.Become a fan of Goal.com International on Facebook!
