Mohamed Zidan, who scored for Egypt in their international friendly against England last midweek, continued his fine form by netting a brace for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday as they saw off Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-0. Dortmund took the lead in the 13th minute through Kevin Grosskreutz and Zidan added goals in the 54th and 70th minutes before he was substituted with 13 minutes remaining. Gladbach brought on Algerian midfielder Karim Matmour in the 63rd minute but the damage had already been done.
Burkina Faso’s Aristide Bance guided Mainz to a 1-0 win over a Hoffenheim side who replaced Senegalese attacker Demba Ba with Ghanaian Prince Tagoe in the 57th minute. The win propelled Mainz to ninth place in the league.
Cameroonian midfielder Joel Matip opened up Schalke's 4-1 battering of Eintracht Frankfurt with a 12th minute goal. The win assisted the club to climb into second place in the Bundesliga, two points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who have so far collected 53 points. Schalke's other goals were scored by Benedikt Howedes, Ivan Rakitic and Kevin Kuranyi. Alexander Meier pulled one back for Eintracht.
Nigerian Obafemi Martins scored his sixth goal for Wolfsburg on Saturday as the defending champions hit Bochum 4-1. Martins, who was introduced at half-time, netted in the 70th minute. Bochum started with Cameroonian striker Joel Epalle, but he was taken off before the start of second half.
Moroccan Yacine Abdessadki struck in the 70th minute to equalise for Freiburg after Hannover had netted the opener seven minutes earlier. But unfortunately for Freiburg, Senegalese defender Papiss Demba scored an own goal three minutes later as side suffered a 2-1 defeat. Hannover had in their ranks Tunisian Karim Haggui, and Ivorians Constant Djakpa and Aroune Kone in the starting line-up. Didier Ya Konan came on at the break. Freiburg also fielded Congolese Cedric Makiadi, Cameroonian Mamadou Iddrissou and Moroccan Yacine Abdessadki.
Tunisian defender Aymen Abdennour’s Werder Bremen side held VFB Stuttgart to a 2-2 draw on Saturday to stay ahead of them in the Bundesliga in sixth position.
Pavel Pogrebnyak gave Stuttgart the lead on 15 minutes and Sami Khedira made it 2-0 before Bremen pegged them back in the second half, first through Hugo Almeida in the 75th minute and then through a Torsten Frings penalty on 81 minutes, to salvage a 2-2 draw.
In another match played on Saturday, Cote D’Ivoire’s Guy Demel was introduced in the 83rd minute to secure Hamburger's 1-0 win over Hertha. Marcell Jansen scored the lone goal five minutes before the interval.

Here's the thoughts of Benfica coach Jorge Jesus, who felt his side deserved a point from the game.
"They were the better team on the night and that's the story of the day.
"We have to keep fighting, pick ourselves up, get the confidence back and challenge in the other competitions and in the second leg of this tie too.
"They punished us on every occasion; they scored some quality goals and they deserved to win."

“The score made it look like it was an easy game, but it certainly wasn't.
(Strange... it looked pretty easy from where I was sitting, but hey.)
“I do not think it's over yet. I remember a clash between Milan and Deportivo la Coruna when Milan was also ahead by four goals, and in the end Deportivo eliminated Milan.
“I went into the Arsenal dressing room after the match to speak to Robin van Persie. I had agreed with him to swap shirts – my sons are big fans of his and he brought two for them. They will be delighted.
Van Bommel went on to talk about a possible move to PSV in the future, but was quick to point out his terms for the move.
“I've spoken with PSV, but we don't have an agreement yet. The club has to decide what they want.
“If Louis van Gaal turns out to be the new coach, I won't go.”
"Tonight everything went in the right direction and we did a very good match. You don't start a match thinking to win 4-0, but at the end i think we deserved it coz we played very well."
