Benin Sack Head Coach Michel Dussuyer And Dissolve National Team

Benin have sacked national team coach Michel Dussuyer, along with his technical team and players, following their failure at the recently-concluded African Nations Cup.

Dussuyer, who has been at the helm since June 2008, failed to take the team beyond the first round in Angola with two defeats against Nigeria and Egypt and a 2-2 draw against Mozambique seeing them finish third in Group C.

That overall performance left the Benin Football Federation (FBF) deeply unhappy and they have responded by dismissing all 23 players and the five-member coaching panel led by Dussuyer.

“A decision has been made to dissolve the national team and its technical supervision,” a statement read.

“In the decision, taken by members of the executive committee, they took into account the indiscipline, lack of patriotism and lack of team results at the African Nations Cup.

“The federation, in conjunction with the sports ministry, will set up a new code of conduct and now start out on a new basis with all players who are called into the national team in the future.”

The federation, though, confirmed that Dussuyer will be paid out for his full contract, which expires in June.
