Nigeria Will Need A Miracle To Perform Well At The World Cup, Says Godwin Enakhena

Highly respected sports host on Lagos Television (LTV) Godwin Enakhena tells Goal.com about the Super Eagles' chances in the World Cup.

Which of the Group B opponents do you see as the toughest for Nigeria?

Argentina and South Korea are our strongest opponents, but we must watch Greece, Otto Rehaggel is an experienced coach who has managed to keep this team together, the Greeks may have struggled to get to the WC but they are very experienced.

Which player would you say will surprise the world during the tournament in the Nigerian team?

Lets watch Osaze Odemwingie, I also think that Ikechukwu Uche can hold his own, these are the two players to watch, but that is if they are fit.

How will the wrangling over the coaching position of the team affect their performance at the World Cup?

If we don't get a coach before the end of February we will need a miracle to perform well at the Mundial, the issue is we can't plan, we can't prepare, it’s going to be very tough for us.

Do you think Nigeria can afford a change in coaching crew this close to the tournament?

Why not? We have at least 3months to prepare. My worry is can we afford a quality foreign coach? Not because we can't pay but my fear is that we will not go for a good coach, NFF will settle for a desperate, name seeking coach who will be a yes man to whoever brings him to Nigeria.

What will be the aim of the Nigerian team going into the world cup? What will they be hoping to achieve?

I still believe we failed in our first outing at the World Cup, let me explain the reason to you. Going to the World Cup in 1994 we had a collection of arguably the best players in Africa, with a lot of experience in world football but we could not go beyond the second round. But a team with less quality, Senegal got to the Quarter final. Our target must be at least the quarter final or we would have failed.

With the performance of the African qualifiers at the AFCON, what should fans expect from them in the World Cup?

Something tells me that our teams to the World Cup will lift Africa's image, the Mundial is a different ball game, the Africa Nations Cup should not be used to judge what will happen in South Africa.
