Egypt Rule Out Amr Zaki Recall

The Pharaohs technical staff are not going to add the player to their provisional squad even though he’s deemed himself physically ready to play in Angola.

Amr Zaki of Egypt
According to Hamada Sedki, the third Egyptian assistant coach, there is no chance that the defending African champions will add Amr Zaki to the 30-man roster that was announced by Hassan Shehata on December 21.

"Amr Zaki's case is closed. The squad was announced and he is not included, so he should be focusing on his recovery program,” said Sedki while speaking to Filgoal.com.

The news comes a few days after Zaki told the same publication that he was fully recovered from his nagging hamstring injury and was ready to represent his country at the upcoming continental tournament in Angola.

The Zamalek player admitted that he was certainly lacking in match fitness but also argued that he could work his way into shape during the national team’s training camp. However, it is now clear that the Pharaohs’ technical staff are not willing to risk including him in the final list of 23 that must be sent to CAF 10 days before the competition begins.
