Mehdi Lacen Turns Down Algeria Call-Up At The Last Minute
The Racing Santander player did not appreciate comments that some of his potential team-mates made about him.
The revelation comes days after the Algerian Football Federation president assured the Algerian public that Lacen would be part of the country's side for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Angola. However, the list communicated by head coach Rabah Saadane surprisingly does not include the French born player.
“There was too much noise around his arrival in the national team, we even went as far as going to the players to ask them their opinion on Lacen,” explained Saadane.
The Algerian coach will hold a press conference today to explain his choices but the list is already known and has been communicated to the press. It includes 23 players plus four reserve elements who will be called into the team if anyone is injured during preparations.
Below is the squad list in full:
Goalkeepers: Lounes Gaouaoui (ASO Chlef), Faouzi Chaouchi (ES Sétif), Mohamed Lamine Zemmamouche (MC Alger)
