Djebbour understands why he was not called up for the continental competition...Algerian international forward Rafik Djebbour has told competition.dz that he understands the decision of his national team coach, Rabah Saadane, not to include him in the roster for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Angola.
“Considering the fact that I’m not playing, the coach decided that it would be better not to call me up. I wouldn’t have played any matches during the CAN. By not going I will have sufficient time to choose my future destination and to sign during the winter transfer window,” he explained.
Nevertheless, Djebbour did admit that he was still a naturally a little disappointed by the situation but didn’t have any hard feelings against his coach and now hopes to come back stronger than before.
“Even though I’m disappointed, I’m realistic. Saadane has his principles like all coaches in the world: If a player isn’t playing then he doesn’t get called up and that’s my case. This is why I perfectly understand his decision. Plus, after the fact, I would say that this is only for now. I’m stepping back so I can jump higher,” he added.
Saadane will hold a press conference tomorrow in Algiers to announce his list of players but the list is already available to the press and ES Setif’s goal machine Abdelmalek Ziaya will be replacing the former AEK Athens representative.
