Chipolopolo netted twice in the last five minutes to give Harambee Stars a reality check and letting them know that they are still continental minnows.

Kenya Harambee was hit 2-0 yesterday by Zambia at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi as the Orange Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup got under way.

Zambia’s James Chamanga rose to head in the opener on 88 minutes to beckon thousands of home fans who had braved a drab performance by the home team to start leaving the stadium.

Four minutes later, Felix Sunzu inflicted more pain when he notched the second, to leave the few fans in a rage - which they vented on the football federation officials.

Zambian coach, Herve Renard, still had the humility to say the result looks good but that his charges did not play according to his game plan.

This was the worst performance by Harambee Stars at home in the recent past. The score-line notwithstanding, the squad lacked fire, intent and purpose to put a smile in the faces of thousands of fans who had come to cheer their despite their elimination for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Not even the presence of foreign based professional like Allan Wanga, Patrick Oboya, Francis Ouma and this season’s Kenyan Premier League’s joint-top scorer John Baraza could ruffle a make shift Chipolopolo side.

In the absence of Kenya’s top marksman Denis Oliech’s, the Twahir Muhiddin threw in Allan Wanga and Francis Ouma in the attack but the two flopped big time.

Harambee Stars will now face Ethiopia in the second match as they seek to rescue their pride. Zambia will face Djibouti.
