Shuaibu Amodu To Lead Nigeria In 2010 World Cup
The NFF have confirmed the position of the Nigeria coach for next year's World Cup, despite calls for his removal...
The executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has ratified a recommendation by its technical committee as well as the coaches association that Shuaibu Amodu lead the country's team to both the African Cup of Nations as well as the World Cup next year.
There have been calls for Amodu to be replaced as coach of the Super Eagles despite qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa because the team have been far from convincing under his guidance.
However, the NFF board on Wednesday in Abuja endorsed Amodu to lead the team to the Nations Cup in Angola in January as well as to the World Cup in South Africa in June.
In a communique signed by Shehu Adamu, the NFF board said, "The Committee also unanimously adopted the position of its technical sub–committee and the Coaches Association of Nigeria, which on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, recommended that members of the Super Eagles’ technical crew should be kept in their post for the African Nations Cup, Angola 2010, and FIFA World Cup, South Africa 2010."
On the other hand, the presidential task force for the World Cup has recommended to the presidency that a proven foreign coach be hired, if the team are to do well in South Africa.
