The Rwandan Premier League
has been temporarily called off as the national team Amavubi Stars intensify
their preparations for this year's Orange Challenge Cup in Nairobi.
The two-week long regional tournament, which kicks off this Saturday, has attracted 12 teams, ten from the Cecafa region and two guest teams in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
This is the second time the league has been put on hold this campaign. Early this month, it was forced into a break to allow the national team prepare for their decisive Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia.
Atraco heads into the break atop of the league table. The 2007 champions moved to 12 points after Saturday's 1-0 win over AS Kigali. After Sunday's barren draw against Electrogaz, APR settled for second alongside arch-rivals Rayon Sport, who earned default points from Mukura and Etincelles who drew 1-1 with Police.
The other league contenders SC Kiyovu won away to Amagaju 2-0 to move into fifth position with six points.
Mukura and Marines, who are still looking for their first victory, are jointly placed in the relegation zone.
