Adil Rami: I Could Still Play For Morocco Or France
The Lille defender says that he still hasn’t completely closed the door on the possibility of embracing his heritage and representing the Atlas Lions one day...
Lille centre-back Adil Rami has told Mountakhab.net that even
though he thinks he’ll eventually have a place in the French national team, he
still remains available to play for Morocco as well and will make a definitive
choice on who to play for when the time is appropriate.
“Right now it's not a done deal, I’m still selectable by both Morocco and France and I’ll see what’s best for me,” he stated.
The news comes months after the defender turned down a call-up by then Atlas Lions coach Roger Lemerre. The decision drew the ire of citizens within the North African country, who accused him of using them only as a safety net.
Nevertheless, in his latest interview, Rami has made it clear that he is very much in tune with what is happening within the setup of the Moroccan national team and that a final decision hasn’t been made yet.
“Just know that I’m sorry to have seen things get to that point for the Atlas Lions in World Cup qualifying. I was sure I was going to see them at the World Cup with that kind of squad and talent. It’s a waste and it distresses me a lot,” he added.
