Dar es Salaam Derby To Rake Record Cash Haul In Gate Collection
The two tradition arch-rivals Simba FC and Yanga wrestle each other today in what is billed as the biggest game in the Tanzanian league calendar.
The Tanzania Football Federation
(TFF) yesterday recorded over Sh40 million (US$ 32,000) in just five
hours of selling tickets for today’s Young Africans-Simba clash.
The TFF's secretary general, Fredrick Mwakalebela told The Citizen that the sales were encouraging and would hit their Sh600 million (US$480,000) target.
As the TFF tries to be transparent on gate revenues, Mwakalebela said the amount was realized in just five hours on Thursday.
"Fans have so far responded positively unlike the previous encounters and it's our hope that the target will be reached," he said.
The TFF's official stressed: "It's plenty of cash in just a few hours, we still have tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, hopefully we'll get enormous revenues this time around."
The defending champions, Young Africans will lock horns with their long-time rivals Simba at the 60,000-seater National Stadium.
The two city rivals have been training in different locations ahead of the clash. Young Africans are in Dar es Salaam while the league leaders, Simba sailed to Zanzibar as they always do before the derby.
Simba have won all their encounters since the league started in September and they top the league while the defending champions Yanga are third after a lackluster start.
